Description:
Do not forget the term U/V when selecting your U/V lamp.
Ultraviolet tracers (U/V) are specifically formulated to become fluorescent when exposed to U/V light. This is the origin of the commonly used names for the two main products using this technology: U/V tracers and U/V lamps.
True U/V light is invisible to the human eye, with violet and blue being the closest visible light colors. The overall intensity of U/V light decreases progressively from invisible U/V to violet, then to blue.
One must be careful not to confuse a lamp emitting high-intensity visible blue light as better, when a lamp correctly tuned for real U/V light emission is far more effective.
This is why BLUE is not necessarily right
A well-tuned U/V lamp should emit mostly invisible U/V waves with only a slight trace of visible violet or blue light. This small visible component helps guide the users eyes to the inspection area, while the U/V rays reveal the tracer leak.
Lamps with strong visible blue output are often marketed as more powerful but are less effective since U/V tracers require true invisible U/V rays to fluoresce.
With these high-blue-output lamps, special anti-blue glasses must be used to eliminate blue light disturbance; otherwise, the intense visible light will obscure the leak or the fluorescent tracer.
