Technical water pH and corrosion test – Fernox Corrosion and pH Test Description:
Corrosion and pH Test is a quick on-site test that determines corrosion levels and pH levels of the water in a heating system.
Quick and simple on-site tests that provide immediate results and advice
One reactive strip per system. Each tub contains 50 reactive strips.
Suitable for checking dissolved metals and the pH of heating system water
Helps comply with BS 7593:2019 and the Benchmark Scheme
Helps meet boiler warranty conditions
Product overview:
Fernox Corrosion and pH Test combined strips (50 strips) measure the level of dissolved metals in the system, indicating the extent of corrosion inside the heating system. These reactive strips detect copper in the system and the pH of the water, highlighting whether it is too acidic or alkaline. Excess acidity or alkalinity can accelerate metal corrosion, especially in mixed-metal systems. Corrosion is a major issue because it can damage pipework, cause leaks and lead to blockages. Therefore, it is essential to check that the system is free from corrosion.
Application:
How to use:
1. Take a system water sample that is representative of the whole system (run off water for a few seconds before sampling).
2. Dip the test strip into the water for 1 second and remove it.
3. Compare it with the colour chart within 10 seconds.
4. Match the colour of the lower absorbent end of the strip to the closest colour on the pH chart.
5. If the absorbent end colour does not match pH 7 or pH 8 on the chart, the system water may be too acidic (below pH 7) or too alkaline (above pH 8).
6. If the pH result is not 7 or 8, Fernox recommends adding Protector F1 inhibitor to the system water.
7. Match the colour of the upper absorbent end of the strip to the closest colour on the Corrosion chart.
8. If the absorbent end colour is higher than 2 ppm, this indicates a corrosion problem, as dissolved metal ions have been detected.
9. If the absorbent end shows a value above 2 ppm, Fernox advises adding Cleaner F3 to the water, flushing and draining the system, then refilling and adding Protector F1 inhibitor.
10. At the end of this procedure, the test can be repeated.
The reactive strips are supplied in a vial containing 50 strips. The strips are non-hazardous but must be kept out of reach of children.
